The government has set a target to complete it in two and a half years. After its construction, the distance from Indore to Ujjain will be covered in minutes.
Indore: Indore’s connectivity with Mahakal’s city Ujjain will increase. On September 19, President Draupadi Murmu will lay the foundation of Indore-Ujjain Sixlane Road. Under this scheme, the four-lane highway is being converted into a six-lane. After this, the distance of 46 km will be covered in minutes, not hours. A target of two and a half years has been set to complete its construction work. The cost of the entire project is Rs 1619 crore.
At the same time, this project includes three flyovers, six underpasses and eight junctions, which will make it ready for Simhastha 2028. This six-lane project will extend from Indore’s Aurobindo Hospital to Ujjain’s Harifatak Bridge. This road, built at an estimated cost of more than Rs 1619 crore, is expected to be completed by March 2028. Apart from three flyovers and six underpasses, this project also includes eight junctions for rural connectivity.
The project is aimed at reducing the heavy rush expected during Simhastha 2028. Currently, the Indore-Ujjain road carries more than 25,000 vehicles daily, leading to frequent congestion. The completion of the six-lane is expected to significantly reduce travel time and make travel easier.
The project will be implemented in three phases, starting with a 14-km stretch. After this, two more sections of 16-16 km will be built. Three flyovers will be built near Sanwer, Shanti Palace Tiraha and Engineering College.
There will be separate lanes for two-wheelers, cars and heavy vehicles. Eight junctions will connect rural roads to the six-lane and ensure that local traffic does not become a hindrance on the main highway. The road has been designed in such a way that accidents can be minimized.
At the same time, by Simhastha 2028, more than 60,000 vehicles are expected to pass through this highway every day. Six-lane will help reduce traffic pressure. This will not only benefit those traveling between Indore and Ujjain, but will also benefit about 1 lakh residents of Indore’s urban areas adjacent to the road. This will especially benefit the devotees going to Ujjain via Indore to visit Mahakal.
There are two toll plazas on the four-lane highway right now. One is in Baroli before Sanwer and the other in Ninora near Ujjain. The toll for cars is Rs 35. MPRDC will also collect toll for the six-lane highway. However, no decision has been taken on the toll rates yet.
MPRDC had issued a tender of Rs 735 crore to convert the 46 km long four-lane into a six-lane. Udaipur-based company Ravi Infrabuild bagged the project with the lowest bid of Rs 623 crore. The company has bid at a 15% lower rate. Rs 735.36 crore will be spent on civil works, while the remaining amount will be used for land acquisition, road safety measures and improvements at all junctions.
